 ANISE

 anise illustration

Anise is a licorice tasting spice (the oil from anise is what flavors licorice candy) that is primarily used in cakes, and confectionery as well as rye breads. It is also used in savory dishes such as fish and poultry. This is not to be confused with star anise, which is used primarily in chinese cooking.  . .  It is one of the oldest spice plants used for both cooking and medicinal purposes.
